Laid bare, in public.

The feathers removed, revealing the pecked, wrinkled skin.
The pink skin, the red skin, scabbed and bloody.
Raw.

This is what we see when the chickens undress,
When the curtains are pulled down and the naked flesh revealed.

What would a human being do, confronted with this bloody, desperate, squawking hen
with her fierce and terrified eyes?
What would a human do?
Is it still a human that says,

Continue the show.
Continue the scraping, the pecking of the skin.
Cover the skin with clothes, but continue.

A human confronted in public with the undressed fact of chicken flesh.
