Garlic pops through the Earth even in the middle of winter. Steve was my “garlic guru”. HE grew garlic, that was his main occupation. He had a booth at the Sunday Farmer’s Market. He sold garlic for seed, garlic for eating at home and also he roasted whole heads of garlic for eating right there at his stand.
I was already growing garlic but I needed some help and he was there to help. I asked him when to plant and he said,”Any time in the late fall all the way through the winter. I have planted as late as January 15.”
That is when Iplanted this year, January 15. And sure enough the garlic popped through the ice and snow and everything.
Steve said to feed the garlic bone meal or blood meal. I did that, after all he was my garlic guru. He maybe wasn’t respected by some people because all he did was grow garlic. His garlic plot was about 40 by 100 feet. You don’t want to have too much garlic. Steve passed away February 5, 2024. He was my garlic guru.
