My son Stevie is a rockstar!
I’m not exaggerating, he really is a Rockstar! Last Saturday night, I sat in the audience of Cuthbert amphitheater in Eugene, Oregon the biggest venue in town where many bounds have played, including Ringo Starr and his all Star band. We saw them there last year.
Stevie plays Congos and sings a few songs with a band in town called Brown stallion. They are a Ween tribute band Plus, they do origin songs under a different name. Ween is a popular group that has been around for many years. Their Songs range from hard rock, soft rock, and even a couple of songs that sound country. They have a huge fan base and people follow them around sort of like the Grateful Dead. I know of THE BAND because Stevie and his wonderful girlfriend Flower were huge fans. In fact I think that’s how they got together.
There’s a huge community in Eugene, Oregon, who call themselves the EugWeen Group. They are wonderful eclectic people who We’re close to Flower and stevie.
So THE BAND ween was supposed to play at the Cuthbert amphitheater Last Saturday night. People traveled from other locations to see THE BAND and of course the Eugene community was super excited. Some of Stevie’s friends had traveled to other locations and followed THE BAND around. Four days before their show, Ween Canceled their show In Eugene and in Portland. Of course everyone was devastated. Even though their tickets would be refunded. I don’t know how it happened, but somehow Browne stallion stepped up and asked if they could play in their place. It was a longshot. They are also a great band and play so many of their songs that they could do an entire concert.
The tickets for The Brown stallion were only 10 bucks and if people already had tickets to the other concert, they got in for free. Many people decided to stay instead of going back home.
Stevie called me last Thursday night and said mom you got a call in sick from work. I’m gonna be at the Casper with the brown Stallion Band. Of course, I had to do it.
On Saturday night, me and my boyfriend and my neighbors Howie and Robin who knows Stevie very well drove together to the concert. Though we did not know many of the songs, the concert was epic, especially when my son sang. He saying several songs and a couple with two other guys. And he did his signature song that he sings at every show they’ve done called the Blarney Stone. Nobody else can sing that song like Stevie and I didn’t know if they would even do it the concert, but it was second to last song of the night.
I must admit that I cried a few times, seeing my son up there having the time of his life, and hearing all the people cheer for him. The venue was as full as it usually was for pretty much any concert, except baby Ringo Starr. We had perfect seats because it was general admission and many people choose to sit on the lawn behind the seating. It’s like a small version of the Shoreline amphitheater and Mountain View, California.
Just one week earlier, I met Stevie and his ex-Girlfriend liezl, Along with her boyfriend and her four-year-old son, and two of her close friends At a park where we celebrated the beloved dog Purdy’s life. She was still with us, but her body had become riddled with cancer. This was her favorite park. And we were all able to hang out with her and say goodbye and she was able to eat steak and anything she wanted. The vet met us there. I remembered when Stevie and Les cell adopted party and her brother Nico so many years ago. They were tiny puppies. We all cried a lot, but it was also a beautiful day and a perfect sendoff.
A year earlier, Stevie’s beloved girlfriend passed away suddenly. And the year before that they lost Nico their other beloved dog but losing Flower oh my gosh there were times I worried about his well-being. It was like he wanted to be with Flower so badly. He suffered and grieved and did all his friends who knew her well.
Last Saturday night was one of the best nights of Stevie’s life. He did dedicate one of his songs to Flower. Yeah, he’s on dialysis and he needs a kidney on top of everything else, but he still himself into his passion, the music. He’s also in two other bands! A Grateful Dead tribute band, and Another one he’s starting with my boyfriend and others
Yep, Stevie is a hero and a rockstar.
