I’m heading up Highway 14 along the Columbia River Gorge. Destination: preliminary destination is Carson Hot Springs. It’s a throwback to the 1890’s, built in 1899.
St. Martin’s Hotel drew the natural hot spring water to porcelain tubs, the same original tubs are still there.
The routine is to soak in hot mineral water, cold plunge in 42 degree water, soak in hot, cold plunge again, soak in hot and then wrap in linen and blankets and sweat the toxins out of your body.
“A bath and a wrap.”
Absolutely rejuvenating for we 21st century Foxes.
I’m on a trip to Ogden, Utah where my daughter resides with a skydiving computer geek. I hit Portland, Oregon first and hit my usual haunts: Powell’s Books, Nike flagship store and coffee shops.
A wrinkle in my plans is a severe forest fire on the Oregon side. Smoke is pretty prevalent and folks sitting outside Skamania Lodge are watching hot embers cross the river (a mile wide or more) and spread the fire to Washington.
I made a brief stop in Wilsonville, Oregon to drive a 2003 Porsche Carrera 4. I took it on a test drive on some country roads. It was exhilarating. I looked at a Mercedes version of a Humvie, transportation for the apocalypse. 260,000 dollars. Really. The smaller sporty version was 150,000 dollars.

“watching hot embers cross the river” — nice!
