She’d been meaning to write about it….it seemed the ideal story for song, rife with a stranger emerging from a forest, a crystal blue Arizona day, a gift from the warm earth carried in the long fingered hand of the tall stranger, that delicate joy of the totally unexpected…my god, she thought, he even wore suspenders if her memory served her correctly…and he was tall, as all worthy gift bearing strangers should be, and not bad looking either.
But her even more handsome husband was walking by her side and the gift from Mr. Stranger was so unusual…maybe she was only imagining him handsome in
sentimental retrospect….but no song ever emerged from her rich imagination…hardly even a journal entry…but today, for so many reasons, she needed a song to come from her insomniac night and oddly the stranger in Sedona came to mind….there was even a ready made title: Heart Gift From The Vortex…. Or Stranger in Sedona….or Heart in Hand!
Such possibilities!
The event itself was bare bones in its simplicity: she and husband were trudging through the sunny dusty day, headed toward a waterfall in a forest near one of Sedonas famed vortexes, sky clear, river melodious by their side as they walked when all of a sudden out of nowhere this tall suspendered stranger stopped in front of her, smiled, held out his hand and dropped what he held in it into her hand….how had she known to reach her hand out? It was magic, no doubt…pure vortex magic.
The stranger walked right up to me and handed me his heart…more specifically a stone warm from the sun in the shape of an almost perfect heart!
He said “ Mother Earth wants you to have this.”
And then he walked away.
And I held the warm stone heart in my hand and in my life until I gifted it to my dear friend Jan….i wanted to give her a special birthday gift and so I gave her my heart.
I think I can write that song now.
