Vince woke up screaming & yelling.
“No! No! Please!!!
He clutched his blankets as he peered down into a deep, dark, dank, bottomless pit.
Crap!
The month was October, & Mister Geronimo had introduced “The Pit & the Pendulum” to his students in American Lit class.
He looked at his phone at his bedside. 7:50 a.m. He was having one of those mornings. He had nothing clean to wear. All his gray & black hoodies were in the unwashed laundry basket. He steeled himself to stick his head into the stinky laundry basket. Every single hoodie was stained with mud or grass stains from his job as a gardner & reeked of marijuana. Digging a bit deeper, just like Mister Geronimo told her students–
“Dig deeper into your research. Surprise yourself!”
He came up with a plaid flannel shirt, gray & red, not too shabby. It would do.
His jeans were 5 day jeans. As he fastened himself in, he ghroaned. They were tight as heck. He must’ve gained a few pounds. He thrust his arms into a 2 day white undershirt–no, make that a yellow-gray undershirt.
His phone showed the time as 8:10!
School started at 8:35.
Vince didn’t have enogh time to grab a bag of corn chips for Blackie, the Crow. Not even time for breakfast.
He sat on the side of his bed to pull onb his socks & shoes. How does one sock always get lost? he wondred as he searched through his sock drawer. A yellow sock & a black sock would have to do. At least they were clean. He pulled the yellow sock on only to notice his big toe wiggling through a hole in his sock.
No time to change socks. He’s buy some new socks after school.#
