My Bunny Book

From Wikipedia: “Rabbits hold widespread cultural significance as symbols of fertility, abundance, and new life, a connection stemming from their rapid reproduction. They also represent cleverness and transformation, seen in trickster figures like Br’er Rabbit and the Moon Rabbit of East Asian folklore. Other symbolic meanings include innocence, vulnerability, and the cyclical nature of life, particularly linked to the moon.

Ancient Roots:
From ancient Egypt to the Greco-Roman world, rabbits have been associated with fertility and new beginnings, symbolizing life and prosperity. “

It all started when I saw a photo online of a journal that came in three sizes that had a leather cover , hand stitched pages of antiqued paper , and the cover had a huge lithographic colorful bunny rabbit, large and whimsically lifelike! It fairly breathed with anatomical detail but mainly it was a huge cunning symbol of furry adorableness! The bunny image immediately captured my eye and my furry-creature-loving heart.

I ordered the largest size journal.
Huge bunny energy….hundreds of blank pages inviting me to my next project, I knew not what!
Perhaps,I thought, a large finale version of yet another of my personal journals…combining language ( my own and others’) with graphics of some sort…
Little did I know what awaited me !!!!!!!!

I fell into the vast creative world of junk journalism; crafted notebooks filled with glued images from every conceivable source, not the least of which were (and very much are) the commercial producers of antique ephemera, stickers, washi tapes,
Pack after pack of glue on fairies, mushrooms, elves, butterflies, gnomes, fair romantic maidens, cunning rural countryside scenes, Flowers, greenery, moons, planets, gods, goddesses, astrology symbols, spangly starscapes, antique commercial signs and countless train, theatre and concert tickets….etc, etc, etc!
Tweezers, tools, scissors, and glues galore….!
And so I began my Bunny Book adventure!

However, my point is- in direct reference to today’s prompt- I had an impulse spurred by some sort of mystical connection to an image of a bunny rabbit! Inexplicably planted into my creative center, and I maintain that that impulse was the definition of pure poetry.

A direct gift from Calliope, Erato and Euterpe, the Muses of Poetry.

My eyes took in an image of a rabbit, my brain thought “oh how cute”, but my artist soul opened up like a lotus to the unforseen unknown possibilities, and without conscious thought, I was engaged on an entirely new creative adventure!

And so, my Bunny Book grows.
Getting fuller and fuller of images, designs, poems, scraps of my years of writing, every page the product of absolute in-the-moment spontaneity …I plan nothing….i only follow impulse.

And because I love to shop, I’ve already a large collection of ephemera from many producers- Japan is my favorite source, but there are many!

So, who knew?

Impulse is Poetry….Poetry is response, immediate and instinctive….meaning comes later…..
Interpretation an afterthought
