This is what happens when you don’t get sleep after working a night shift because you decide to rewrite the final chapter of your children’s middle-grade fiction book. Of course, it’s 1966 in San Francisco, golden gate park. Jerry Garcia and the Grateful Dead appear, along with Gracie Slick and your favorite music teacher, Who inspired you when you were a kid, Miss Evans, show up as well. And there’s the mad scientist and a couple of cops, and throw in Wavy Gravy and the hippie with the cotton candy machine you think is magical. In the story, your dad is a musician who knows everyone, and your mom dances and twirls with the deadheads. and of course the main characters, the neighborhood kids and a three-legged Guinea pig named Stubs who brings everyone together.

You finally visit the trees late in the day and they validate your story and the moon peeks in through the window Just before you fall asleep…

That’s my story and I’m sticking to it.
